What is the BIF project?Forest biodiversity - our native animals and plants as well as their habitats - in Europe continues to decline. This is because too little forest is properly protected, and forest management is not ecologically sustainable. Our continent is no different from the rest of the world, but as rich nations with the knowledge and financing to do better, it is up to us to reverse this trend as per the numerous agreements to this effect individual nations and the EU have signed. A first step to this is mapping clearly the whereabouts of the most biologically valuable forests in Europe. Strange as it may seem, this has not yet been done. Read more ...
